Southwest HRA Head Start seeks to provide programming that will enhance children's growth and development in preparation for later academic and social pursuits. We believe the preschool years and the experiences the children have during these years are important to successful development therefore we make every effort to provide the highest quality program possible.

Who is Eligible?
Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements.
Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.

Head Start is a FREE PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM for children of families that qualify based on the federal poverty guidelines, childhood disabilities and various family circumstances.
The following information wil be needed at the time of pre-registration:
child's official birth certificate
child's up-to-date immunization record
child's TennCare or insurance card
social security numbers
dates of birth for all family members
3 emergency contacts
proof of household income (Income Tax or W-2 Forms, year to date pay stubs or Families First/Food Stamp Verification)
