About This Organization

Monroe County Head Start serves 188 pre-school children (low income) and their families in 12 classrooms at 4 centers. Head Start provides comprehensive services to all enrolled children. Applications for 2011-2012 Registration will be accepted for all locations. Call 570-421-2711 for information.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Eligibility/Apply Eligibility Monroe County Residency Meet family income requirements Application Process Parents fill out Pre-Registration Form If you qualify, PSFC sends you a letter with an appointment date During your interview the application is completed Please bring the following documents with you to your appointment: Your child’s birth certificate Social Security Numbers for everyone in the household Your child’s immunization record Your child’s medical insurance card Your child’s physical (within the past 12 months) Information pertaining to other services your child may be receiving (including: WIC, Easter Seals, IU20) If receiving Food Stamps bring confirmation letter from DPW. Income verification for ALL sources of income in the PAST 12 MONTHS PSFC reviews your file and available slots are awarded on a points system.
