About This Organization

PreschoolersHead Start offers 3 and 1/2 hour sessions, four days a week in a preschool environment. Morning or afternoon options are available. Breakfast, lunch and/or a snack are offered in all sessions.TransportationRapid City Head Start will assist families who need transportation by busing as many children as possible to and from class sessions at the center.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Enrollment and EligibilityYFS Rapid City Head Start gives priority to families who meet household income guidelines or have children with disabilities. Income guidelines are established by the federal government each year. All services are free of charge for participants who qualify.You can download and print the Head Start application here.
