About This Organization

The Y's Baltimore County Head Start program has been designated a National Center of Excellence by the Department of Health Services. Our program is only one of ten Head Start programs in the country, and the only Y in the U.S. to receive this designation.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

To enroll in a Head Start program, contact the centerclosest to your home. Our Family Service Workers willexplain the process and arrange a time to meet with you to complete an application. Please be prepared to supply the following documents:an original birth certificate or legal document showing your child’s name and date of birtha record of your child’s immunizations documentation of your child’s latest physical proof of residency (phone bill, BGE, etc.) proof o family household income IFSP or IEP if your child has one other documents a Family Service Worker may request
