About This Organization

Wilmington Head Start provides many services to both the child and the family. Our core program is tailored to the needs of 3-5 year-olds and includes literacy and social skills, for the parents, parental involvement and educational opportunities. We assist parents in finding a "medical home" which is an approach to providing comprehensive primary care that forms a partnership between the child, parent and their doctor. WHS then makes sure that the child is up-to-date on all required shots and exams. For those children with special needs, we will assure they will receive all necessary services.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

You may complete a pre-enrollment application over the phone (302) 762-8038 ext. 10 or you can visit any of our seven centers .
