About This Organization

Head Start is an educational child and family development program promoting the well-being of children and families. Head Start addresses the educational, nutritional, health, social service, and disability needs of preschool age children and their families.Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by assuring that low-income children have access to comprehensive educational, health, and nutritional programs. Head Start encourages parental involvement.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.

Download the guidelines and compare your income to the 100% column.NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR FALL ENROLLMENTHead Start is now taking applications for children who are three to five years old. If your child turns three before August 31, 2011, please call us as: 724-834-1260, Ext: 350. Or, you may contact us by email at Headstart@westmorelandca.org If contacting us by email, please list your name, address & telephone number. Also include your child’s name & their date of birth.
