About This Organization

Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers (birth to three-years-old) or expectant families. Its mission is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women; to enhance the development of very young children; and the promote healthy family functioning. Early Head Start services are provided to children and their families primarily through weekly home visits and bi-monthly group socializations. Referrals may be made for family support services.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level.
