About This Organization

Head Start and Early Head Start is a strong educational program which prepares children for success in school and in life. Head Start also provide services in the area of disabilities and behavioral health when it is needed. Our program also has home-based educational ooportunities. The Early Head Start Program offers services to pregnant women and children from birth to age three. This program provides prenatal education, full-day childcare and family development services.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

If you are applying for Head Start center-based services for a three- to five-year-old and you live in the City of Roanoke, use this application. TAP Head Start and the City of Roanoke collaborate together to bring preschool programs to local Roanoke City families.
