About This Organization

Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program focusing on child development that serves children 3 & 4 years of age and their families. Head Start establishes relationships that promote growth and development in young children and encourages the self-sufficiency of families. The program is family centered and designed to foster parent's role as the principle influence on their child's development and to assist families in developing and achieving self-reliance. Head Start's approach to service includes: Health, Nutrition, Education, Parent Involvement, Social Services, Mental Health and Disabilities.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

We consider gross income from the twelve months immediately preceding the month in which the application is made, or the calendar year immediately preceding the calendar year in which the application is made.
