Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Pre-K/Head Start Application Process 2012-2013 PreK/ Head Start Application Information Eligibility Requirements for 2012-2013 Children must be three or four years old on or before September 1, 2012; and Families must meet income eligibility guidelines and/or qualify for free or reduced National School Lunch Program; or Limited proficiency in English; or Professionally evaluated and diagnosed with a learning disability; or Homeless Application Requirements All of the following items must be presented during the application process in order to be considered for enrollment: Parent or legal guardian’s driver’s license Birth certificate Current immunization record Social security card for the child Family income verification (2 most recent check stubs for each member employed or past two months of bank statements showing payroll direct deposits) Proof of residence in TCISD that are no older than 30 days before the date of registration (Lease agreement showing names of children, utilit
