About This Organization

Head Start is a no-cost, comprehensive preschool program for children ages 3-5 from low-income families. In Head Start, children grow and thrive in a supportive, nurturing environment where they and their families have options and opportunities for optimum growth, development, and learning.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements for Child Day Care Subsidy With the exception of teen parents enrolled in school full-time, parent(s)/caretaker and live-in companion must be working a minimum of 20 hours per week or meet a work/training combo of 20 hours per week. Subsidized child care is available to provide care for a child only if no family member is available to care for the child. This following information is required from working parent(s)/caretaker(s) and any live-in companion(s) in the household: Employment verification stating the days and hours that you work, your pay frequency, and your anticipated gross wage per pay period. Child Care Information Services (CCIS) can supply an Employment Verification Form. Current pay verification covering 4 weeks employment within the most recent 6 weeks (they do not need to be consecutive).
