Head Start provides, quite simply, the best way to get your child ready for school.
That's because ...
at Head Start, your child will learn many language skills that help them talk about their ideas and feelings and about the world around them. They develop early reading skills and writing skills that stay with them the rest of their lives. They also learn fundamental math skills so they can recognize patterns — as well as sort and count things. This leads directly to basic math, like adding and subtracting. Children also develop basic science skills so they can explore and organize the world around them

Who is Eligible?
Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements.
Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.
Families are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
Enrollment Is Easy ...
1. Contact the Nearest Center.

2. Meet with the Family Worker to apply. (We do the paperwork!)
You’ll need your child’s birth certificate, insurance information, immunization records, and
verification of income (such as a recent tax return or paycheck stub).
3. Notification of Acceptance (or placement on waiting list)
4. "Getting to Know You” home visits by the teacher to prepare your child to start classes
