This is a family orientated child development program designed to provide education, social services, health, and nutrition services to income eligible families. Services provided to children age 3-5 years old are available to families in Scott, Carver and Dakota Counties. Head Start provides a quality preschool program 4 days a week, 9 months a year which includes activities to promote learning in the areas of literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, physical health, and social emotional behavior. Through this curriculum children will gain the necessary skills to be prepared for Kindergarten. Head Start also offers comprehensive assistance to parents working towards self sufficiency.

Who is Eligible?
Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements.
Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.
