About This Organization

The Head Start/Early Head Start program is administered by The School Board of Broward County, Florida under the Pre-K - 2 Department. The population of the School System is more than 260,000 and shows an increase by more than 10,000 students annually. The multi-ethnic school population is also growing. There are 25,629 foreign born students from 152 countries creating the need for new programs and services for parents and children. The Head Start children benefit from the entire services of the school system which includes psychological services, speech/language evaluation and services, counseling and other services for children with disabilities.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements and Application Procedures In order to be eligible for a preschool program, the following must apply: the child is 3 to 4 years old on or before September 1, AND family income meets low-income guidelines Children with disabilities who meet all other requirements are considered for enrollment. When applying the following are required: proof of age (example: child's ORIGINAL birth certificate) proof of ALL household income from the previous year child's Medicaid card, if eligible proof of guardianship, if applicable proof of Broward County residency photo id ***Eligibility is Based on Income and Other Factors, NOT on a "First Come, First Served Basis". *** For More Information, Please Call 754.321.1961 or click here for more preschool info.
