The federal Head Start Program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school.

Who is Eligible?
Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements.
Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.

Child's birth certificate or other birth verification
Total cash receipts before taxes from all sources for the last twelve (12) months or the last calendar year from all supporting family members related to the applicant by blood, marriage or adoption.
IEP/IFSP for child with disabling condition (if applicable)
Foster Care Agreement (if applicable)
