About This Organization

The Early Head Start Program provides comprehensive, year-round, child and family development services to low-income families with children, prenatal to three years old.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Early Head Start Program Eligibility In order to participate in Early Head Start, families must: Be at or below Federal Poverty Guidelines or have a child with a diagnosed disability Have a child under age 24 months, or be expecting a child Live in the designated catchment areas in Montgomery County or Prince George's County: Montgomery County Rockville, Silver Spring, Wheaton and Takoma Park Prince George's County Adelphi, Hyattsville, Riverdale, Greenbelt, Bladensburg, Capital Heights, Landover, Lanham, College Park, Beltsville, New Carollton, Cheverly, Brentwood and Mt. Ranier Children may participate in Early Head Start until three years of age.
