About This Organization

PMS currently has 22 program sites and serves 1,273 Head Start children and 246 Early Head Start children through both center-based and home-based programs. Our Pre-K program consists of direct services to four year old children who will attend kindergarten the following year, providing developmentally appropriate activities for parental involvement. PMS serves 20 Pre-K children in Santa Fe County and 40 Pre-K children in San Juan County. PMS' Home Visiting Program includes first time pregnant women, caregivers and other first time parents, to ensure that babies are born healthy; children are physically and mentally healthy; children are safe; children and parents have nurturing relationships; and the family is connected to formal and informal supports in the community.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.
