About This Organization

Head Start is a state & federally funded program for young children ages three to five. The program offers comprehensive services to low-income children and families. Head Start has been federally supported in Minnesota since 1965. State funds also support the Head Start program.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Head Start Recruitment & Community Resources Recruitment follows Head Start guidelines and covers the five county area. Enrollment priorities are (Listed in order of priority) a) Repeaters - 4 year old’s b) Income eligible 4-year-old’s c) Income eligible 3-year-old’s d) Income eligible 5-year-old’s with IEP’s or extenuating circumstances e) Over income 4-year-old’s with referral/disabilities At least 10% of the total number of enrollment opportunities are made available to children with disabilities.
