About This Organization

Northwest Tennessee Head Start/Early Head Start continued to serve children and families in thirteen counties that lie in the three Development Districts of West Tennessee.The program employed 66 teachers and 71 assistant teachers who engaged 1,410 Head Start children in well-planned, developmentally appropriate learning experiences at 26 centers and 3 home-based sites. A total of 19 Early Head Start teachers and 13 assistant teachers offered high-level care and services to 137 infants, toddlers, and pregnant women.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.
