About This Organization

Head Start, along with the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), gives learning an early boost for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. By focusing on children’s literacy, language, math and social skills, as well as their health and nutrition needs, these early learning programs prepare children to be successful in school. Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Eligibility requirements and enrollment: Children ages three, four or five and from low-income families or have a disability are eligible for Head Start. The ECEAP program is for children ages three or four years old by August 31st. Children with documented delays also are eligible, as are children with disabilities regardless of income. Foster children, homeless children and families on TANF are automatically eligible. Pre-enrollment takes place each spring and each August for the school year that runs from mid-September through May.Questions?
