About This Organization

Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages birth to five from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start programs provide a learning environment that supports children’s growth in the following domains; language and literacy, cognition and general knowledge, physical development and health, social and emotional development and approaches to learning.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Registration for Early Head Start/Head Start Program Parents with Children from birth to 5 years old, with income that meets federal guidelines may qualify for the Early Head Start/Head Start program. Required Documentation ALL proof of family income (most recent tax return or pay stub for 12 consecutive months prior to application date) Proof of receipt of Families First, SSI and/or Food stamps, if received in the last 12 months Your child's birth certificate Your child's current physical Your child's Social Security card (Pre-K Only) Your child's Immunization on Tennessee State Form Proof of your child's learning disability if applicable (i.e. IEP, IFSP or psychological evaluation) If you would like to fill out an application, be sure to have all the required documentation with you as mentioned above and visit one of our centers listed below.
