Head Start is preschool for 3 and 4 year old children provided at no cost to eligible families.(Early Head Start is a program for pregnant women and children age 0-3 provided at no cost to you.)
Head Start is a school readiness program. We address each child’s needs individually in a play based and supportive environment. Head Start staff facilitates a smooth transition in to kindergarten.

Who is Eligible?
Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements.
Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.
Families are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
How do we apply for Head Start?Visit or call the main office at 586- 469-5215 for an application or to see if your family qualifies. In order to complete the application, you will need proof of income, child's birth certificate, shot record, proof of residence and social security numbers for household residents.
