Lake Orion Head Start Head Start

Head Start is a free national program that promotes school readiness. This is done by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutrition, social and other services to enrolled children and families. This program engages parents in their children’s learning and helps them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals. Significant emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in the administration of local Head Start programs.

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Enrollment Information: Early Childhood Program enrollment is open to children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age. After choosing the appropriate program for your child, enrollment forms and fees must be submitted to the Early Childhood Office to complete the registration process. Pre-registration is required with a non-refundable fee. Enrollment papers may be obtained from the Early Childhood Office or printed from this website. Head Start requires additional enrollment forms which may be obtained in the Head Start Office. The Early Childhood Program is non-sectarian and non-discriminatory. All programs must meet minimum enrollment requirements.
