About This Organization

Who does Head Start serve? Children who are three or four years old and their families if:A. They live in Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker, or Renville County. B. They meet income guidelines set by the federal government.C. They have a special need.What is Head Start? A preschool program for children and their families. The parents are involved with decision making policies, and are also encouraged to help in the classroom. Where are Head Start programs located?Heartland offers center based and home based programs with the four-county area of Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker, and Renville.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.
