About This Organization

The Early Head Start Program is designed to be a comprehensive, well structured program serving infants (0-8 months), mobile infants (9-18 months), toddlers (19 -23 months), two year olds, and their families. This program also serves expectant mothers, providing information on fetal development and pre-natal care. Pregnant participants are visited weekly by staff that monitor their progress and provide intervention for their mental well being, and a healthy newborn

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Children are eligible to participate in the Head Start and Early Head Start program by meeting federal income guidelines and eligibility requirements. Region 19 Head Start serves 3,850 preschool children and 213 infants and toddlers throughout 31 centers. Families with children under the age of five, including expectant parents who live in El Paso and Hudspeth counties, may be eligible for enrollment.
