About This Organization

The Preschool Services Department (PSD) administers the Federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs, California Department of Education State Preschool program, as well as the Child and Adult Care Food Program in 43 locations throughout the County of San Bernardino. All programs are fully funded from Federal and State sources with no local cost. PSD serves about 6000, disadvantaged families with children ages 0 - 5 and pregnant women. PSD’s priority population includes: Children in Foster Care Children under Child Protective Services (CPS) Children with Disabilities and/or Special Needs Children and families experiencing homelessness

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply for Enrollment Step 1 Download the Preliminary Enrollment Application (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open document). The Eligibility Worker will remind you as to what you need to bring to your appointment in order to expedite the application process.
