About This Organization

Helps kids age 3 to 5 get a jump start on the basics before attending kindergarten.This program is available in JACKSON and HILLSDALE counties. Children who complete Head Start are prepared for kindergarten, excited about learning, confident in their own abilities and ready to succeed. We offer two programs to best suit their needs:Center Based: held four half days a week, three and a half hours per day.Full Day: held five days a week, for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Q: How do I apply for Head Start?A: Call or come into any of the CAA offices and ask to sign up for Head Start. You will need: proof of income & birth certificate to begin your application.Q: How old do children have to be to enroll?A: Children must be 3 years old by December 1.Q: Are all families low income?A: No. Head Start services 10% of children over the income guidelines.Q: Does Head Start provide transportation?A: Yes, we have limited transportation.Q: Does Head Start provide meals?A: Yes: morning session have breakfast and lunch, afternoon session have lunch and a snack, full day sessions have breakfast, lunch and a snack.
