About This Organization

Head Start has served children and families in Cleveland County for over 40 years. The program is administered by Cleveland County Schools and currently serves 244 children ages 3-5. There are 14 classrooms located in 11 elementary schools through the county. Children must meet certain criteria in order to qualify for Head Start services.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

How do I apply for my child for this upcoming school year (2012-2013)? - Your child will need to be 4 years old on or before August 31, 2012. Stop by OSR and pick up an application packet (or print one here) How do I apply for my child to attend preschool next year (2013-2014)? - OSR will make appointments for the preschool screenings after Jan. 1, 2013. Your child will have to be 4 on or before August 31, 2013.
