About This Organization

The first five years are the most pivotal years in a child's development. During this time, children experience exponential growth, and are working to develop foundational language and literacy skills. High-quality early childhood education, like Christopher House's Early Childhood Develoment Services (ECDS) maximize each child's potential during this crucial time by fostering their social and cognitive growth. A 2006 report by the Committee for Economic Development found that children who participate in high-quality early childhood education are less likely to repeat a grade or require special education classes, more likely to graduate from high school, and less likely to participate in criminal activity during their juvenile and adult years.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.
