About This Organization

Cheaha Regional Head Start/Early Head Start has developed a disabilities service plan providing strategies for meeting the special needs of children with disabilities and their parents. Each child enrolled in our Head Start program receives several screenings within 45 days of enrollment. The children are screened for developmental level by using the LAP-D Screen (Learning Accomplishment Profile – Diagnostic).

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Head Start is a national program for income-eligible families that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of education, health, nutrition, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
