About This Organization

Head Start was started with the belief that regardless of one’s circumstances, everyone deserves the chance to have a better future. Head Start accomplishes this by supporting the growth of the whole child & family. Physical wellness, social – emotional development and early learning experiences help children & their families succeed. Head Start serves children ages 3-5. What is Head Start and what do they offer? Head Start is a comprehensive child development programs which serve children from birth to age five and their families. The programs are child-focused and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families. Head Start provides a range of individualized services in the areas of education, medical, dental and mental health, nutrition and social service to children and their families.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How do I apply to Head Start? To apply to Head Start please contact the local center in your area or email an agency representative. Please provide contact information that includes, your name, address, and at least two phone numbers where you can be reached. For additional parent information contact the Early Childhood Learning and Knoweldge Center, (ECKLC)
