Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

To Apply for Early Head Start Call Early Head Start at 517-372-9411. Age Guidelines: Early Head Start serves pregnant women and children through the age of 3. To Enroll If you’re application has been accepted, a Family Advocate will contact you to schedule an enrollment appointment. Please bring the following documentation along with you to your appointment (The following information pertains to the child being enrolled and the parents/guardians): Proof of Income Social Security numbers Immunization record of child Child’s latest physical (MUST be within the past 12 months) Verification of birth of child (Birth Certificate or Hospital Certificate) Dental exam performed by a licensed dentist MUST be completed within first 90 days of child’s enrollment
