About This Organization

Fannin County Head Start began as a summer school program in 1965, one of the first Head Start programs in the nation. It continued as a summer school program until the early 1970's. One Head Start classroom with 20 students was added as part of Bonham ISD.The program expanded over the years and currently has eight classrooms with 139 students. There are three classrooms serving 3-year old students and five classrooms serving 4-year old students. Each classroom is staffed with one teacher and at least one teacher assistant.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

We have open registration and continue to take applications year-round. Fannin County Head Start is funded for 139 students. Selection for each new school year begins on June 1st. All vacancies that occur during school year are filled within 30 days. Qualifying for Fannin County Head Start... - Must meet income guidelines (See below) - Must live in Fannin County - Child must be three or four years old on or before September 1st, (for the school year applying for) Applying for Head Start The initial interview will take approximately thirty minutes.1.
