About This Organization

The Head Start program of the Big Sandy Area Community Action Partnership, along with 6 delegate school systems, serve a total of 1219 children and their families throughout a 5 county area. At least 90% of these children are from low-income families or are eligible under other criteria that Head Start recognizes as being in need. The Big Sandy area has benefited from the Head Start program for over 40 years and children continue to receive a valuable early childhood foundation and school readiness in our 69 center-based and 1 home-based classroom each year

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.
