About This Organization

The Head Start/Early Head Start Program provides high-quality early childhood education in age-appropriate, nurturing and secure center-based infant/toddler and pre-school learning environments. The home based option is also offered for 12 Early Head Start families.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

Enrollment Up to ten percent of Head Start/Early Head Start enrollment slots are made available for children with diagnosed special needs and up to ten percent of Head Start's enrollment can be over the poverty guidelines; however precedence is given to families that are income qualified first. If a child has been found income eligible and is participating in the Head Start/Early Head Start program, he or she remains income eligible through the enrollment year and the immediately succeeding enrollment year. Families in receipt of Ohio Works First (OWF) cash, SSI, and foster children automatically qualify. 2,163 children and families were served Head Start: 1,950 Early Head Start: 213 99% was the Average Monthly Enrollment as a percentage of funded enrollment.
