About This Organization

ABCD Head Start and Children's Services is the largest early childhood education program in Boston. We have established ourselves as national experts in the field of early childhood development with a proven track record of serving low-income families. Unlike traditional child care and other early education programs, Head Start focuses on preparing children for school, working to develop each child's social and learning skills through: High Quality Education Individualized Curriculum Family Case Management Disability Services and Support Mental Health Services for Children and Families Meal Plans Health Screenings (Including Dental, Vision and Hearing)

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

How Do I Apply? Visit or call your neighborhood Head Start site today to make an appointment with a family case manager. Bring the following to the appointment: Your child's birth certificate or proof of birth Household income verification Two proofs of City of Boston residency. There are other Head Start programs throughout the state also funded by the federal government with similar rules and eligibility.
