About This Organization

Description of Services: Head Start is a federally-funded program of early childhoodeducation and family development. Target Population/Eligibility Criteria: Early Head Start, for pregnant women and children birth – 3, and Head Start, for children 3 – 5, serves lowincome families in Monroe County. Hours of Operation and Service Delivery: · Early Head Start provides Home-based as well as Center-based services. Home-based services are scheduled at the convenience of the family and Center-based services are provided from 9 – 3:30 Monday – Friday.· Head Start provides Center-based services in either half day or full day programs. Half day programs are 8:30 – 11:30 Monday – Thursday; and full day services are 9:00 – 3:30 Monday – Friday. Full day programs are generally limited to 4 year olds.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.
