Keyes Union School District Early Head Start

Head Start is a free federally funded program that provides comprehensive services to qualifying families of children birth to 5 years old. We have morning and afternoon preschool classes, an Early Head Start infant/toddler class, in addition to a Home Based program for infants/toddlers and pregnant moms. To schedule an appointment to complete an application please call (209) 656-2388 . You will need to bring in your child’s Birth Certificate, Immunization Record and proof of income for the past 12 months in order to apply. Children with special needs are encouraged to apply.

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.
