About This Organization

Early Head Start All children deserve the best start possible. United Way of Acadiana Early Head Start gives your child an EARLY HEAD START to a good life – from pregnancy through age 2. We offer a variety of services, from prenatal education to childcare to referrals and other assistance.

Who is Eligible?

Head Start generally serves children ages 3 to 5 who meet local eligibility requirements. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply

To Apply, Parents Must Bring: Parent ID Birth Certificate for the Child Social Security Card for the Child Immunization Record for the Child Medical Proof of Child’s Disability (if applicable) Medical Proof of Pregnancy (if applicable) Proof of Income or Student (please bring all that apply): Income Tax Form 1040 W-2 TANF documentation Pay stub or pay envelopes (At Least 4 Check Stubs) Unemployment documentation Written statement from employers Foster care reimbursement SSI documentation Documentation of no income Food Stamp Printout or SSI/SS Award Letter or Financial Aid Award Letters Proof of Residency (Utility Bill or Copy of Lease)
