  One of the top five WORST decisions I have EVER made in my 39 years of living was to enroll my son in the Brookings Head Start program. They are understaffed and overworked (roughly 9 children under the age of 5 to ONE adult) & have NO sort of structured learning in place. The “Head Director Of Behavior” is out of touch with the real world today and should have retired YEARS ago. In fact, I’m not sure how she got the job to begin with! She contradicts herself with EVERY word she speaks (and she says A LOT) and she does it while belittling & reprimanding you as if you were a child yourself (which you are to her considering she’s a FOSSIL)! No one should EVER speak down to someone or interfere with the way a parent interacts with their child the way SHE does! If she must be there she needs to stay in her lane. My son unfortunately wasted two years at this “free for all” facility, learned NOTHING, is now behind going into kindergarten, has behavior issues he did NOT have prior to enrolling & has been made an example of and bullied not just by a few children but the staff themselves. I didn’t HAVE to go with Head Start (I could have sent him to an actual preschool with a fee) but chose to allow him to go because of the misleading “benefits” the program claims to provide. If you think you HAVE to send your child/children here…no you don’t. Get a second, get a THIRD job and send them to a REAL preschool or you’ll regret it. They need to call it what it is, Head Start - Free Daycare ZERO education or schooling provided. Don’t make the same mistake I did.
